Sell 1000 things update

It has been a little while since I updated you all on my sell 1,000 things challenge. That is probably because I have been a little slack on it. I have been doing it for months now and wanted to complete it by my birthday, which didn’t happen so the next goal was to have it finished within 12 months.

When I started out I was all enthusiastic about it and thought I could absolutely do it and did not expect to still be doing it now. I had a garage sale, sold things on eBay, Facebook, through email and did well. I am up to 710 items sold. The main things I have sold have been books, clothing and home wares.

I have 2 boxes of stuff to sell; it is just a matter of finding the time to list them. I have wondered though if the time to list some of theses things is worth it to me. I mean to do it all – photograph, type up the listing, send an invoice/wait for payment, post or arrange pick up etc. It all takes up time and sometimes for only a few dollars.

When I started I mentioned possibly writing an eBook or something to sell. At this point I am leaning towards only selling the items in the 2 boxes that will sell for more than $20 and just donating the rest then focusing on selling the eBook and a couple of other things.

You see my life has changed a lot in the last few months. My eldest daughter has a development delay/disorder, which requires at least 2 sessions of therapy a week as well as work at home and things. I am getting busier with public speaking and writing, have been asked to do another book (with a different publisher, but at this point I have informed them it cannot happen right now), am a youth group leader as well as still maintaining my blogs and freelance writing. Trying to sell off my excess stuff on top of all this feels like the least valuable use of my time.

After doing my time diary I have been more conscious of how I spend my time. I love writing, blogging, spending time with my family and the listing things to sell is now a chore to me.

I still want to complete the sell 1,000 things and since my original plan incorporated creating an eBook, and I have discussed my blog to book eBook a few times, that is what I will focus on. It will be in 2 weeks.

  2. What an amazing challenge to sell 1,000 things! Whoa!

Now I’m trying to think if I have 1,000 things I can sell . . . not too sure. I guess if you count all the pens and pencils I have laying around in some drawers I might be able to!

    Great post!

  3. Hi Kylie!

I don’t even know if I own 1,000 things….but I sell/donate/give away as I go so that might be why. I hate extra stuff sitting around (we also don’t have kids yet…I’m sure that would add to “stuff” pretty quickly:)).

Sounds like you have a lot going on right now. I hope you are well!
