I was looking at old photos over Christmas. I don’t think I have shared pictures of me when I was my biggest. In fact I don’t have any of when I was my BIGGEST, but this is a close idea…

Most people when they see that, or if I say I have lost over 30kgs (66 pounds) they can’t believe it. Many people also don’t believe I have 2 kids. Unless you are friends with my sister or I and have seen these on Facebook, it is unlikely you would have seen these awful photos.
You see, in the picture above I had actually lost about 10 kilos (22 pounds) since having my daughter, Mele’ana. After I had her, I didn’t even want to know how much I weighed, but the last I weighed in was almost 100kgs (220pounds) and I know I put more on after that.
When I got married I was around 68kgs (approx 150pounds) and only went up 5kgs(11 pounds) by the time I fell pregnant almost 2 years later. During my first pregnancy I went up to 82kgs (180 pounds) which I was uncomfortable with, but was within healthy weight gain for a pregnancy, although too heavy for my frame. After I had Halia, I lost a bit of the weight, but fell pregnant within 9 months of her. It took almost 18 months to fall pregnant with Halia and I was told at 17 I may never have children so we certainly did not expect to fall pregnant so quickly.
I was very depressed and we were very broke so I ate a lot and ate crap. A lot of junk food that was cheap, full of sugar/salt/carbs and nowhere near enough fresh produce.
I fluffed around trying to lose weight and got down to 86kgs at FinCon11 then down to 80 – 82kgs (176 – 180 pounds) at FinCon12. You can see the difference in the pictures below.

When I went to Fincon12 I was happy in my dresses, but jeans and a top like in the pic above I hated. I hated my stomach. I was determined when I got back from FinCon12 that I was going to tone up and drop the weight. I wanted to be better than I was before I had my kids. My youngest is almost 4! There is no excuse for me not to exercise.
I am happy with my actual size now so fitness is more the aim. It has been all along, but now I plan on running in fun runs and eventually a marathon.
Last year I took a photo on Christmas Eve and was ecstatic with how I looked. I did the same thing this year and to me, I look slimmer in the face and just healthier. In the 2011 picture I had on a lot of make up, in the 2012 picture I have tinted moisturiser and mascara, that’s it!

My current fitness game plan is:
- Using a free 30 day gym membership trial I got last month for January
- Exercise whenever I want to shop. I have wanted to shop a lot since the robbery, but want to have a carefully selected wardrobe again, not just buy whatever is on sale. Exercising when I want to browse online will help my wallet and waistline.
- Dancing. I managed to enroll in another term of pole because some of my friends are doing it now. We had just enough people to run a class and one of my friends and I now alternate driving there, so I am saving on petrol. I’m doing practice sessions during the week more now too. So often I am at the gym 3 – 5 times a week plus 2 – 4 pole dancing sessions.
- Do the couch to 5km run. I am up to running 3ks at the moment and hope to get to 5kms soon. Once I can do it, I will be entering some actual runs such as the Colour run.
What do you do to stay healthy? Is there anything you have found really works for you?

I lost 35-40 lbs roughly 35 years ago and kept it off. If my pants start to feel snug, I know I need to think about what I am eating. I stopped weighing myself years ago. It helps I exercise from 2 to 7 times a week.

Yes, the clothing is a better indicator than the scales. Congrats on the weight loss and keeping it off.
First off, Well Done Kylie! You look wonderful! Growing up I always danced. 6 days out of 7 I usually had a class or there were comps and shows so I didn’t have to worry about what I ate. As soon as I stopped dancing as a teenager I piled on weight and hit about 65kg by the time I was 14. After that it was yo-yo diet after starvation diet after binge and purge diet. I still struggle with weight now although I’ve had 5 kids since then. As for keeping fit now I do two Karate classes a week and one personal training session a week. I try to make my dance class although I’m not always able to due to either work or family stuff. Just before Christmas I was looking for a way to make some extra money from home and I was introduced to these Ultimate Body Applicators which claimed to tighten, tone and firm the skin in as little as 45 minutes. I signed up to the business side to get hubby off my case about getting a part time job and didn’t think much more about it. About 3 weeks ago I decided to try the product and I was stoked with my results! My clothes fit better and I didn’t have as much over hang around my waist! I’ve done 4 UBA’s now and each time I see even better results! I’ve had some friends decide to jump on board the business side too since they’ve seen my results so not only am I getting slimmer but I’m helping my friends see results and I’m now the proud owner of my own business! 2013 is really shaping up to be my year
Congrats on all the weight loss and fitness. It makes you feel so alive hey.
I love to run. I never thought I’d be a gym person but its now a sanity saver for me. I started with a free trial and have been going ever since. When i first went to the gym I could barely make it through a 2K now I can do over 5K. I also need to watch what I eat as I think that is my biggest problem area. I make sure the kids eat right but somehow I don’t!
It does Rachael! It is a real sanity saver. Go you with 5k, I’ll get there. I’m with you on making sure the kids eat well more than myself.
You’re looking great, Kylie! Although that pic of us from #fincon11 reminds me that I’ve packed on a few pounds since then…….some of it muscle, some of it not. LOL. I have the exercise thing down (I work out 7 days a week), but it’s the eating thing I have to continuously work on! Keep up the great work!

Thanks Travis, I highly doubt you’ve put on, lol. Yes, eating is tricky. I sometimes will eat junk with the excuse I can exercise more. Never happens.
Well done you look great!
I lost 40lbs in 2010 and so far it’s stayed off – I still need to lose another 35-40lbs to be happy but slow and steady wins the race
40lbs is great, it’s a huge accomplishment, especially keeping it off. That’s the hardest part for most people.
Aww, I love that pic of the 4 of us!
I also love the idea of working out whenever you feel like shopping. Good plan, Kylie. (Although you already look amazing!)

Thanks Cait. I love that pic too!
Kylie, that pic of you from Christmas Eve is one of my favorites of you. I think it’s because you have such little makeup and your natural beauty (which you have tons of) shows. Your progress has been great and every time I see a picture of you, I get motivated to keep pushing!
I hope we can get a few pics together at the conference this year. Sherrian has lost weight as well, and combined we may be able to say we lost 200 lbs from Fincon11 to 13!

You are so sweet Khaleef! You motivate me too. You know, since losing weight my face is less red and I feel ok wearing little or no make up whereas before I hated my skin tone. I would love to get a photo with you two this year! Can’t believe we didn’t last year. I bet we can do 200lbs together.
Congrats on your weight loss. I too lost 30 lbs last year and have never felt better. I am on maintenance now. What a great feeling
